Cowboys 53-man roster prediction: The 2024 all-potential team
By Reid Hanson
Linebacker (5): DeMarvion Overshown, Eric Kendricks, Damone Clark, Marist Liufau, Jason Johnson
Everyone’s excited about Overshown’s potential so he needs no explanation for this list. Clark is a player the Cowboys have been waiting on to reach his ceiling but has had an up and down career thus far.
Kendricks may be over the hill but he’s still a good player with a better game than many of the bottom rung guys could every hope for. Liufau was a controversial pick but the Cowboys seem to adore his upside so he’s a clear choice. Finally, Johnson makes the cut as an UDFA. He’s a sure tackler who can play running downs and special teams as good as anyone.
Cornerback (5): Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland, Caelen Carson, Eric Scott, Israel Mukuamu
Mukuamu is technically a SAF but his potential maxes out playing his college position of CB so that’s the play here. He takes over as someone who can play inside and outside and can match up with TEs and tall WRs.
Diggs and Bland lead the unit and Carson bumps Jourdan Lewis off the roster. Everyone’s seen what Lewis is, and safe picks don’t make the cut on this All-Potential Team. Nothing was seen of Eric Scott last year but the Cowboys traded up for him in the 2023 draft, so everyone knows they love his potential as a prospect.
Safety (5): Malik Hooker, Donovan Wilson, Markquese Bell, Juanyeh Thomas, C.J. Goodwin
Hooker is the top FS on the roster capable of playing single high roles. Wilson and Bell are in-the-box playmakers who have big time playmaking ability. Thomas is a wildcard who can play a little of everything. He flashed in the preseason but disappeared when the real season began. He could be a great all-around prospect for Mike Zimmer to mold.
