The 2023 NFL Draft is in the books and while there might not be many storylines surrounding the Dallas Cowboys save a few late free agent signings and possible extensions, the regular-season schedule release is next up on the NFL's offseason itinerary.

The schedule release is an exciting time for fans.

While there's often an overreaction in terms of how a schedule may determine a team's success, or lack thereof, there's no denying teams can be gifted a so-called easy path to the playoffs. On the flip side, teams can get dealt a daunting schedule that may make it difficult to notch double-digit wins and make the playoffs.

There's still so much known about the Cowboys' 2023 schedule, but there's some important information out there to know before it's released in full.

When does the Cowboys 2023 schedule release?

The official release date hasn't been announced, but a rumor unearthed during draft weekend hinted at Thursday, May 11 as the target date. This aligns with when the NFL typically releases its schedule in the second week of May.

Who do the Cowboys play in 2023?

The Cowboys' 2023 opponents have been public information for months. We're just waiting for the order in which Dallas will play said teams.

Cowboys 2023 home opponents

  • New York Giants
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • Washington Commanders
  • New England Patriots
  • New York Jets
  • Seattle Seahawks
  • Los Angeles Rams
  • Detroit Lions

Cowboys 2023 away opponents

  • New York Giants
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • Washington Commanders
  • Miami Dolphins
  • Buffalo Bills
  • San Francisco 49ers
  • Arizona Cardinals
  • Los Angeles Chargers
  • Carolina Panthers

How are the Cowboys opponents determined?

As always, the Cowboys play a home-and-home series against their division rivals. Dallas finished 4-2 in the NFC East last season. They swept the Giants and suffered road losses against the Commanders and Eagles (without Dak Prescott).

Eight games will come against the NFC West and AFC East. The entire NFC East will play both divisions in full in 2023. That brings us to 14 games.

As the second-place team in the NFC East last season, the Cowboys play the other second-place teams from the NFC divisions the NFC East isn't playing. That's how the league landed on the Lions and Panthers as Dallas' other matchups.

The 17th game follows a similar formula. This year, they'll play the second-place team from the AFC West, which happens to be the Chargers.
