The Dallas Cowboys and star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb are embroiled in yet another week of tug-of-war over his upcoming contract extension, and it appears as though only a glacial pace has been made in these talks.

While the Cowboys should rightfully be held to task for the unusually public way in which they have handled this request, Lamb may have helped turn the tide of public opinion slightly against him with his most recent contract demands.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the $33 million per year Dallas has offered Lamb is reportedly not good enough for his camp. Lamb is eyeing a contract that is right on par with the top of the market, which would pay him close to Justin Jefferson's $35 million per year.

To make things even more difficult for Dallas, Garofolo implied that the structure the Cowboys have sent to Lamb's representatives isn't satisfactory either, with cash flow and the amount of guaranteed money both being sticking points for No. 88. If this keeps going on, a deal could be very hard to come by.

CeeDee Lamb asking for more than $33 million per year with Cowboys

Even the biggest Lamb fans in the world may need to concede that Jefferson is one of only a handful of receivers who are better than him right now. Someone will eventually surpass Jefferson's $35 million per year, but it doesn't make sense for Lamb to be that guy right now.

With Dak Prescott also seeking more than $50 million per year in his next contract and Micah Parsons in line to likely become the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL when he needs to negotiate his contract, the Cowboys could have most of their cap room tied up in these three players.

Things remain at an impasse, and it seems as though they will stay this way until either Lamb backs down from his demands or the Cowboys give in and make him the highest-paid receiver. While fans might wonder why all this fuss is being made over $2 million per year, every dollar counts in the NFL.

The Cowboys will be unable to replicate their past offensive success if they don't have Lamb on the outside. Brandin Cooks and Jalen Tolbert starting with a bunch of unheralded backups behind them might make life very tough on Prescott and the rest of the offense in a tough division.
