It took until the eleventh hour, but the Dallas Cowboys will have CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott together for the next five years after agreeing to contract extensions with both players.

Both Lamb and Prescott had their moments in the Cowboys' 33-17 win in Cleveland. They had a beautiful connection on a deep ball up the sideline that was one of the prettiest plays from the Week 1 slate.

However, Prescott misfired on some throws in the second half. Lamb had a minimal impact after halftime. It was obvious on first watch that their chemistry wasn't up to snuff. That's no surprise given that Lamb didn't partake in his first padded practice until five days before kickoff.

It's nothing to worry about, though. Prescott and Lamb are arguably the deadliest quarterback-receiver duo in the game. It is elating knowing that they will be on the Cowboys for the next five seasons.

While Lamb signed with less than two weeks to spare before the regular season, Prescott signed four hours before Sunday's game against the Browns. During an appearance on Up & Adams on Tuesday, Lamb confirmed what Cowboys fans knew all along about his contract.

Cowboys fans have Dak Prescott to thank for CeeDee Lamb's contract

Lamb and Prescott texted throughout the WR's holdout. That's no surprise. While most of their conversations centered on the Cowboys offense, Lamb revealed that they discussed staying together and that it was important to him that Prescott re-upped with Dallas.

"He's the leader of this team," said Lamb. "Everything goes through Dak. He has the keys to the offense, he has the keys to how we move and how we present ourselves."

Lamb's contract negotiation took longer than folks expected because he wanted to come close to resetting the WR market. The Cowboys were reluctant to meet Lamb's asking practice. In typical Jerry Jones fashion, though, he caved and acquiesced to his superstar's demands.

While money talks, Cowboys fans long theorized that Lamb wouldn't have committed his prime years to Dallas if he didn't have a good idea that Prescott would be his quarterback.

While Lamb couldn't have known that Prescott would sign before the start of the season, odds are Dak informed him of his commitment to the franchise. It was learned after Prescott signed that continuing his career in Dallas was always the top priority. He did not want to go anywhere else.

Lamb's revelation also speaks to why it was so important that Prescott was extended: QB purgatory awaited the Cowboys had they moved on from Prescott. Luckily, that is a moot talking point.

At the end of the day, it is reassuring to know that Lamb and Prescott kept in contact during one another's negotiations. It makes our panic and unrest throughout the summer look foolish, but hey, that's what being a fan is all about, right?
