Best memes and tweets from confused Cowboys fans reacting to Mazi Smith pick
By Jerry Trotta
With ample first-round prospects to choose from, the Dallas Cowboys made Michigan defensive lineman Mazi Smith the No. 26 overall pick in the NFL Draft.
The Cowboys could've gotten richer at edge rusher and cornerback by taking Georgia's Nolan Smith and Penn State's Joey Porter Jr., but opted to fortify arguably the weakest position group on their roster. Though No. 26 is a bit rich for Smith, Dallas couldn't afford to let the best remaining DT pass them by.
The Cowboys were taken for a spin getting ready to pick at No. 26 overall as the Bills leapfrogged them to take Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid, who had been heavily mocked to Dallas and may or may not have been atop their big board.
Did that change their plans? It's hard to say, but rest assured Cowboys fans are split about the selection given the players that were available.
With that, here are some of the loudest reactions.

See what we're saying? Nobody knows how to feel, though we'd venture to say the reaction (so far) has largely been positive?
Ultimately, the Cowboys are getting a player in Smith who topped Bruce Feldman's "Freaks List" in 2022. The former Wolverine has an unteachable blend of size and power that helped him wreak havoc on Big Ten offenses the last two seasons.
Fans have every right to be annoyed Dallas "reached" on Smith. They positioned themselves to draft the best player available and drafted for need instead, though it's worth noting neither Nolan Smith nor Joey Porter Jr. were among the team's top-30 visits.
Remember, the Cowboys have a superb hit rate in the first round. The Tyler Smith selection last year drew mixed reviews and all signs point to him being the best OL from the class. Chances are Dallas got another gem in Smith.
Equipped with picks Nos. 58 and 90 on Friday, Will McClay and company have plenty of ammunition to further stack the roster. Let's not overreact because the Cowboys zagged when (seemingly) everyone wanted them to zig and take one of Smith or Porter.
This front office more than deserves the benefit of the drafting doubt. Defensive tackle was a glaring need coming into the offseason, and Dallas now can pair Smith with Johnathan Hankins and the ascending Osa Odighizuwa
That's a job well done if you ask me.
