The Dallas Cowboys are one of the most decorated franchises in NFL history. Like any franchise, though, the Cowboys have experienced ups and downs with a number of all-time great seasons and myriad dreadful seasons.

As we inch closer to the 2023 regular season, Dallas owns a 550-408-6 career record, including a 36-30 mark in the playoffs with five Super Bowl rings in eight appearances. Taking that into account, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the Cowboys have a winning record against 23 of the NFL's 32 teams.

There are multiple teams Dallas has flat-out dominated since they originated in 1960, even if the sample size is small for some matchups.

6 teams that the Cowboys have the best record against

6. Arizona Cardinals; 56-33-1 (.628)

The Cowboys have actually lost four of their last five meetings against Arizona, so the Cardinals ranked higher until recently. Fans will remember the 2022 matchup when the reeling Cardinals ended a three-game losing streak and stopped Dallas' four-game win streak to give both teams an 11-5 record.

5. Indianapolis Colts; 11-6 (.647)

Who could forget last season's Cowboys-Colts matchup? The Cowboys actually set a franchise record with 33 fourth quarter points to pull away for a 54-19 victory. Dallas has won four of its last five matchups against Indy, which would explain why the Colts check in at No. 5 because Indy actually won three straight meetings spanning 1996-2002.

4. Houston Texans; 4-2 (.677)

This is one of the small sample sizes were referenced. The Texans gave the Cowboys a scare in Arlington last season, but a clutch goal-line stand helped Dallas see out a 27-23 victory against the then-one-win Texans. The defense deserves credit for pitching a shutout in the fourth quarter to allow Dallas to overcome a 23-17 deficit.

The Cowboys lost to Houston in overtime back in 2018, but won their previous three fixtures vs their in-state rivals in 2006, 2010 and 2014.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers; 11-6 (.647)

The Buccaneers' success has been few and far between since they originated in 1976, so no surprises here. They own a 299-442-1 record as a franchise and came up short in the playoffs vs the Cowboys last year in what turned out to be the final game of Tom Brady's legendary career.

Dallas is actually 3-3 in its last six matchups vs Tampa Bay, but their 11-6 record is buoyed by winning their first eight games against the Bucs.

2. Cincinnati Bengals; 10-4 (.714)

The Bengals are one of two teams Dallas has a winning percentage north of .700 against. The Cowboys once held a 5-4 record against Cincinnati but have rattled off five straight wins against the reigning AFC North champs, with their most recent victory coming in 2022 with Cooper Rush starting in place of Dak Prescott.

1. Carolina Panthers; 10-3 (.769)

The Cowboys won a 36-28 barnburner gainst the Panthers two years ago. Dak Prescott threw three third quarter touchdowns, which seemed to give Dallas enough cushion but Carolina made things interesting with a pair of touchdowns from D.J. Moore to make it a one-score game with five minutes remaining.

While Dallas has owned Carolina in the regular season, it's the Panthers who boast a 2-0 playoff record against America's Team.

Just missed the cut:

  • Washington Commanders; 76-46-2 (.621)
  • New York Giants; 73-46-2 (.612)
