5 bold predictions: Dak Prescott brings Cowboys out of passing slump vs Rams
By Randy Gurzi
4. Cowboys hold Rams under 70 yards rushing
So far in 2023, the Cowboys have been better against the run than what we saw a year ago. They're 18th in the NFL after surrendering 670 yards on the ground which doesn't seem great but that number is inflated by their two losses.
In Week 3, they surrendered 222 yards to the Arizona Cardinals in a shocking defeat. Two weeks later, they gave up 170 to the San Francisco 49ers. Outside of that, they surrendered 108 to the Giants in a 40-0 win and held the New York Jets, the New England Patriots, and the Chargers to fewer than 100 yards.
That shows how important it is for this defense to stop the run — which allows them to truly unleash their pass rushers.
In Week 8, they take on the Rams who started out slow on the ground but have taken off in recent weeks. They had 179 yards on the ground in a win over the Cardinals and then 135 last week in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Kyren Williams has been their primary back but he's out due to an injury and that leaves Royce Freeman and Darrell Henderson — who led the way against Pittsburgh last week. While they were impressive in that one, Dallas should be able to keep them in check.
This bold prediction is that they do exactly that and keep the Rams under 70 yards on the ground.
