The NFL free-agent market still has plenty of compelling names.

2. DE Shaq Lawson

The Cowboys drafted Marshawn Kneeland in the second round to complement Sam Williams as depth pieces behind Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence. The hope is for Kneeland to mold into a solid player over time and Williams to have a bounce-back year.

Still, to get someone with as high of a motor as Shaq Lawson with a veteran mentality would be a huge upgrade to an otherwise thin edge room. While his production has dipped in recent seasons, Mike Zimmer would find ways for Lawson to be effective.

A former first-round pick in 2016, Lawson has actually been a more effective run defender than pass rusher in his career. That's exactly what the Cowboys need. He only played 33% of the snaps in Buffalo last season and that would be around what he would get in Dallas behind Parsons, Lawrence, Williams and Kneeland.

3. CB Stephon Gilmore

When healthy, the Cowboys' DB group will be one of the best units on the team. However, losing Stephon Gilmore hurts their depth at cornerback.

Now 33 years old, Gilmore proved he can still be a quality contributor. His physicality in coverage and high football IQ allow the former Defensive Player of the Year to make his presence felt every Sunday. His pest-like disruptiveness helped him notch a team-high 12 passes defended last season.

Gilmore's market value sits at $9 million, according to Spotrac. The Cowboys are about to get $8.5 million in cap relief from releasing Michael Gallup. Can you think of a better way to put those savings to use than signing Gilmore? For context, the Rams signed injury-prone CB Tre'Davious White for $8.5 million this offseason.
