4 Cowboys players who won't be missed in 2024
By Jerry Trotta
2. Michael Gallup, WR
Michael Gallup is under contract for 2024, but given Dallas' cap situation it's widely expected they'll move on once March rolls around. Don't be shocked if Gallup is floated as a trade chip for a potential win-now piece. Either way, the Cowboys can save $9.5 million on the cap if they trade or cut Gallup with a post June 1 designation.
That feels like the most likely outcome here. Unfortunately, Gallup hasn't rediscovered his pre-ACL injury form. If you thought Gallup was disappointing in 2022 -- his first season post-surgery -- 2023 was even worse. In 17 games, he caught 34 passes for 418 yards and two touchdowns.
There's a reason Gallup was phased out of the offense. He ranked near the bottom of the league in separation rate and Dak Prescott had little success throwing his way early in the season. A former 1,000-yard receiver in 2019, Gallup has 1,287 receiving yards over the last three years combined.
Gallup had some great moments in Dalla before injuries took their toll. Look for Jalen Tolbert to assume Gallup's role in the offense in 2024.
