4 Cowboys fan favorites who are in danger of being cut before Week 1
- Tough decisions will need to be made on the defensive line
- Competition in the return game could be a problem for KaVontae Turpin
- There is a lot of pressure on Deuce Vaughn to make the final roster
The Dallas Cowboys have one of the best rosters in the NFL right now, which means tough roster decisions are going to have to be made at some point in August and September. The Cowboys don't have the luxury of keeping everybody on the 53-man roster, so this could be an attractive team when it comes to other teams looking to make trades and upgrade themselves.
Obviously, the Dallas Cowboys are going to do everything in their power to keep the meat of this roster intact. They're not just going to let good players go for nothing, but every team usually has at least one surprise roster cut after the preseason.
Could any Cowboys fan favorites be on the chopping block?
Top 4 Dallas Cowboys fan favorites that may be cut before Week 1
1. Neville Gallimore, DL
Neville Gallimore was a third-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft (82nd overall) and he's played 35 career games for the Dallas Cowboys. He missed most of the 2021 season but bounced back to appear in 16 games in 2022 where he racked up 33 total tackles, a sack, and a QB hit.
As of right now, though, Gallimore's roster spot seems anything but safe or set in stone. The Cowboys have seen some emergence over the first two years of Osa Odighizuwa's young career, and he appears entrenched in the starting lineup. They brought back Johnathan Hankins in free agency. They used their first-round pick on defensive tackle Mazi Smith.
Do those things prevent the Cowboys from keeping Neville Gallimore? Not certainly, but there's at least a chance that the emergence of some of these other players could cause Dallas to take the nearly $3 million in cap savings if he's not going to be playing a significant role for that defensive front.
