3 worse-case scenarios for Cowboys in first round of 2023 draft

2. All pass catchers with Round 1 grade are off the board
Dallas did well this offseason to add Brandin Cooks but they're still not sure about the rest of their pass catchers. Michael Gallup took a huge step in the wrong direction last season and Jalen Tolbert was a disappointment as a rookie.
They're hopeful Gallup can rebound but even if he does, they can't feel great about Tolbert and Simi Fehoko as the next men up.
Wide receiver isn't the only position with questions either. Now that Dalton Schultz is out, Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot are the two main tight ends. Both have shown they can play but it's a major step to go from rotational player to starter.
With all that being said, Dallas would be wise to target a pass-catcher in Round 1. There would be a couple of decent options at receiver including Jalin Hyatt from Tennessee and Josh Downs from North Carolina. At tight end, Utah's Dalton Kincaid or Michael Mayer from Notre Dame could be of interest.
But if none of those players are available, things could get ugly for Dallas. While they shouldn't zero in on one position, the lack of options in areas of need could lead to the worst-case scenario of all — reaching out of necessity.
