3 most shocking decisions Cowboys made with 53-man roster

2. Jourdan Lewis avoids PUP list
Trading Kelvin Joseph for another outside corner is proof positive that Dallas is confident in Lewis' return from injury. Still, the veteran CB hasn't practiced all offseason and said this week (!) that he wants one more week of rehab before returning to the practice field.
The regular season starts in two weeks. At this rate, it'd be shocking if Lewis is activated for the opener against the Giants on Sunday Night Football.
As a six-year vet, Lewis likely doesn't need much practice time to get cleared. At the same time, though, he hasn't played since October and his conditioning is undoubtedly lagging behind the rest of the cornerback room.
Odds are Lewis needs a multi-week ramp up period to return to the field, which means he could miss the first two games. Placing Lewis on the PUP list would require him to miss the first four weeks. While that would leave Dallas shorthanded, the cornerback room is deep enough to get by until he's ready.
Given the comments Lewis made this week -- and the sheer depth of the CB room -- we were stunned he wasn't placed on the PUP list to get an extra month of rest.
