Cowboys FA Target No. 2: Mason Crosby, Kicker

Last year, the Cowboys were unprepared at kicker. They went into the season with undrafted free agent Jonathan Garibay as the favorite for the job. It wasn't long until Garibay proved he wasn't up to the task and in came Brett Maher.

During his second stint with America's Team, Maher was money. Throughout the regular season, he delivered on one kick after another. But then, the playoffs began.

Maher fell apart and missed several extra points in a row. Dallas stood by him following the Wild Card meltdown but then decided to move on in the offseason. So far, all they have on the roster is Tristan Vizcaino — who was originally signed in the playoffs after Maher's parade of misfires.

That job won't likely be Vizcaino's for long since Dallas is ready to look for a veteran kicker.

The player who makes the most sense has to be Mason Crosby. A case could be made for Robbie Gould as well, but Crosby is actually younger than Gould (surprising, I know) and was slightly better in 2022.

Crosby hit on 25-of-29 field goals and 37-of-39 extra points. He's also been clutch anytime the game is on the line, which Dallas fans know all too well. He was, of course, the one who knocked in the game-winner in the 2016 NFL Playoffs against the Cowboys — he also handed Dallas a loss this past year with a 28-yard field goal in overtime.

Throw in the fact that he and Mike McCarthy worked together for years with the Green Bay Packers and it feels like a great fit for both parties.
