Cowboys pick they got right: Deuce Vaughn, RB, Kansas State
By now, we've all seen the video of Chris Vaughn getting emotional when he was allowed to call the player Dallas was taking in Round 6 at No. 212. Vaughn, who is a scout for the Cowboys called his son, Deuce Vaughn, who was a production machine at Kansas State.
In three seasons at K-State, Vaughn racked up 3,604 yards on the ground and 34 touchdowns. He added another 1,280 yards and nine touchdowns as a receiver — and for good measure, he even had 145 yards on kick returns as a freshman.
Simply put, Vaughn was electric. The problem is, he's also just 5-foot-5, which led to many teams ignoring him for the majority of the weekend. That could prove to be a great thing for Dallas says LaDainian Tomlinson who called Vaughn a "matchup nightmare."
The Cowboys are entering a new era in their backfield now that they finally admitted Ezekiel Elliott's contract was greater than his performance. They're going to turn to Tony Pollard, who is fresh off his first 1,000-yard season and got hit with the franchise tag for his effort.
Pollard is another electric player but he's never been the lead back for an entire season. That means they needed someone who could step in and take some of the load off his shoulders — and Vaughn will be that guy. It won't take long at all for fans to fall in love with his style of play and this might wind up being their best pick of the draft.
