The sun is setting on the 2023 NFL regular season. Can you believe it? It feels like yesterday we were gushing over highlights from Dallas Cowboys training camp. Now, there's one week left in the regular season before the playoffs start.

The Cowboys won't know who they play in the first round until Sunday, but they need to handle business against the Commanders first and foremost. With a win, they win the NFC East and secure the NFC's No. 2 seed.

That would ensure them at least two home playoff games. It also means they'll avoid the 49ers until the NFC Championship Game.

Of course, the playoffs being on the horizon means the offseason is right around the corner. The Cowboys will be faced with myriad tough decisions, but these players could shorten that list if they perform well in Week 18 and the postseason.

3. CB Jourdan Lewis

How many Cowboys are playing better than Jourdan Lewis right now? CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott, DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons are good shouts, but the list probably ends there.

Lewis has been lights-out for a month and his hot streak culminated in Saturday's win against the Lions when he made several big tackles against the run and picked off a screen pass in the second quarter with Detroit driving.

Lewis was written off amid a disappointing start to the year. A free agent at season's end, fans were prepared to move on in the offseason. Now fully recovered from Lisfranc surgery, Lewis has proven he's still a quality nickel corner.

Right now, Dallas' 2024 cornerback room consists of Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland, Nahshon Wright and rookie Eric Scott Jr. Nobody else is under contract. With another strong outing in Week 18 and the playoffs, Lewis could defy the odds and secure another contract with the Cowboys.
