3 Cowboys players in danger of losing their job after 2023 NFL Draft
By Jerry Trotta
1. Neville Gallimore, DT
Gallimore figures to be a focal talking point throughout the offseason program and training camp. Unfortunately, most of that discourse likely will focus on his battle to make the final roster after a lackluster 2022 season.
Despite the Cowboys being thin in the defensive trenches, Gallimore was a healthy scratch both in Week 7 and the Wild Card playoff win against the Buccaneers. He also failed to crack a 35% snap share in eight games, broke 40% in just four fixtures and never got over the 50% hump.
While Dallas lost Carlos Watkins in free agency, they re-signed Hankins and drafted Michigan specimen Mazi Smith in round one. There's only so many DL spots to go around, and DeMarcus Lawrence, Osa Odighizuwa, Dante Fowler, Dorance Armstrong and Sam Williams aren't going anywhere.
Not to mention there's palpable excitement surrounding fourth-round pick Viliami (Junior) Fehoko, whom Dallas wants to convert to a 3-technique tackle, and Chauncey Golston made big plays down the stretch of last season.
Don't be shocked if the final DL spot comes down to Gallimore or Quinton Bohanna. Given the limited impact Gallimore had last year, we're giving the early nod to Bohanna, which means Gallimore is on the outside looking in.
