We're still nearly two months from the start of training camp but the Dallas Cowboys are already considering the way their 53-man roster will look this season. They do have some new faces to work in, including Stephon Gilmore, Brandin Cooks, and Mazi Smith, who all fill major needs.

Those additions, as well as several others, have heightened the competition for roster spots. That's why these three players enter the summer with a lot on the line.

Adding Stephon Gilmore means the Cowboys have two of the top cornerbacks in the NFL with him and Trevon Diggs. They also have Jourdan Lewis, who missed much of the 2022 season due to injury as well as DaRon Bland. All four of them feel as though they'll have a role this year and if Dallas goes five deep, that means Nahshon Wright and Kelvin Joseph will be fighting for one final spot.

Joseph would seem to have the upper hand simply due to his draft status. Each player was added in the 2021 NFL Draft, but Joseph was a Round 2 pick (No. 44 overall) whereas Wright was taken in the third round (No. 99 overall).

Each got a chance to play last year with Lewis and Anthony Brown injured and they both struggled. For Wright, he did at least record an interception in their win over the Titans and had two pass defenses in that game — as well as in their win over the Eagles the prior week.

Even with that being the case, the Cowboys believed in Joseph's talent enough to take him early in the second round and might be more lenient when scouting him. That means Wright has a lot on the line as he could be fighting for his job.
