The Dallas Cowboys have wrapped up training camp as they enter the second week of preseason. Following their game against the Seattle Seahawks, they will have another week of practices before playing their final exhibition game on Aug. 26 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
From there, they'll have some tough cuts to make as they trim the roster down to 53 players. With all that being said, let's take a look back at camp and identify which three players felt like the biggest disappointments.
3. Matt Farinok, IOL
Now that Zack Martin is back and happy, Dallas has a solid starting five on their offensive line with Tyron Smith, Tyler Smith, Tyler Biadasz, Martin, and Terence Steele all in the mix. The question is how things will look should anyone go down with an injury. And if history is any indicator, someone, unfortunately, will miss time.
They do have some flexibility with Tyler Smith showing the versatility to play guard and tackle as a rookie but that means they would need a backup guard they can trust if he needs to kick out to tackle. In 2022, they had Connor McGovern who could play all three interior spots at a decent level. This year, they were hopeful Matt Farinok could take over that role.
So far, that hasn't been the case. He struggled with protection in their loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars playing off-balanced for much of the night. He was especially off when it came to pass protection.
As frustrating as that had to be, he's also had a rough go in several practices. He was also on the wrong end of some Mazi Smith aggression, which made the rounds on social media.
To be fair, Smith could do this to just about any player when he gets the upper hand. More concerning was the lack of effectiveness in their game against the Jaguars. And with Chuma Edoga out with an injury, the Cowboys might need to keep an eye on the waiver wires for some help in the regular season.
