Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott finished second in the AP voting for the NFL’s MVP award in the 2023 season, but he’s not expected to finish as high in 2024, according to the opening odds.

FanDuel Sportsbook has Prescott at +1600 to win the MVP, behind Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, CJ Stroud, Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert and Jordan Love. It’s interesting that Love is the only NFC quarterback ahead of Prescott.

The Cowboys signal-caller is also tied with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts in the latest MVP odds, something that Dallas fans certainly won’t like to see.

Prescott had a great season in 2023, throwing for a league-best 36 touchdowns while only tossing nine interceptions. He also led the league in completions.

Dallas’ playoff failure – losing to Love and the Packers on Wild Card Weekend – may have soured oddsmakers on Dak coming into 2024. Does that give him value?

Dak Prescott 2024 NFL MVP odds

I think there is an argument to be made for betting on Prescott to win the MVP award this season.

Since the NFC seems wide open (Hurts, Brock Purdy and Dak are all tied at +1600 in the MVP odds), there’s a chance Dallas could end up the No. 1 seed in the conference. Plus, with most of the top candidates for MVP being in the AFC, there’s a good chance they cannibalize each other in the market.

Burrow and Jackson, as well as Mahomes and Herbert, will likely eliminate two of the group because they all can’t win their respective divisions. We’ve seen in recent seasons that voters are likely to give the MVP to a quarterback on a team with the best – or one of the best – records in the NFL.

Prescott threw the ball a ton in 2023, a recipe for him putting up strong passing numbers. If he can keep his interceptions down again, Dak has the system around him to finish amongst the top players in the MVP race.

Jalen Hurts 2024 NFL MVP odds

It’s interesting to see Hurts in the same spot as Prescott, especially after the Eagles’ offense faded in the 2023 season.

Hurts finished with just 23 touchdown passes and he threw a career-high 15 interceptions. While the Eagles quarterback does bring a different dynamic with his legs, is it disrespectful to put him this close to Prescott, who was No. 2 in MVP voting in 2023?

Oddsmakers seem to have these two players linked as the one who wins the NFC East will undoubtedly have the better case for MVP in the 2024 campaign.
