When the Dallas Cowboys traded for Joe Milton earlier this year, some might have thought it was the wrong move for Jerry Jones. Yet, Milton is looking every bit of the perfect backup to Dak Prescott.

However, with Dak's injury history, the Cowboys are one play away from needing a much-more qualified third string quarterback. And now, the New York Giants may have given that to them as they decided to release veteran Tommy DeVito.

DeVito seemed a likely cut, all along, as the Giants had Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston and rookie first-round pick Jaxson Dart in the fold as well. Now, DeVito has the chance to land on his feet elsewhere. Dallas could be a fit, unless he's able to get a true backup job on another team.

The Cowboys claiming Tommy DeVito would be a classic Jerry Jones move

As we have come to know more and more, especially this offseason, Jerry Jones loves attention. We know, good and well, that Jones is in the entertainment business rather than football. Now, this could be the perfect opportunity to mix both.

DeVito has proven he can play in this league after a couple of years with the Giants. His career record of 3-5 displays exactly what you would expect out of a backup-type talent. But, the ability to energize fans and rally teammates is something Jones would appreciate.

DeVito has a skillset that allows him to make plays with his legs, as well, which can be exciting at times. He plays with a passion that is unmatched by most in this league. DeVito has that chip on his shoulder after going undrafted, and you can tell.

This is a clear upgrade opportunity for the Cowboys in reference to current third-string quarterback Will Grier. If the Cowboys wanted to solidify that quarterback room from top to bottom, then DeVito makes a ton of sense.

And again, Dallas wants to make a move that will grab fans' attention, DeVito makes a ton of sense. It's killing two birds with one stone for Mr. Jons.

Unfortunately, one of those birds isn't a Micah Parsons contract. But, that's another story entirely.
