The Dallas Cowboys will open up the 2025 season against the Philadelphia Eagles in the league’s kickoff game and there is a lot to be excited about if you are a fan of the Cowboys.

There is a new head coach in Brian Schottenheimer and a revamped roster with some top-tier talent including Tyler Booker and George Pickens.

It sure feels like the roster has improved at several different positions and the new energy brought in by Schottenheimer has gotten fans of the Cowboys pumped up about the new year.

But the No. 1 reason fans should be excited about the upcoming season isn’t because of Tyler Booker or even Brian Schottenheimer. It’s because of a healthy Dak Prescott.

A healthy Dak Prescott should give Cowboys fans plenty of excitement

Prescott missed the final nine games of the 2024 season due to a hamstring tear and it was the second time in five years that he a season-ending injury. But Prescott is healthy going into offseason workouts and that is great news for Dallas. Since becoming the starter in 20216, the Cowboys have a record of 76-46 (62.2% winning percentage) over the last nine seasons.

In the seven seasons that Prescott played 12 or more games, the Cowboys have made the postseason five times and have not had a losing record in those seven seasons. In a recent article by Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports, he wrote about the one reason for optimism for every team going into the 2025 season. For Dallas, that reason was none other than a healthy Dak Prescott:

"Dallas can look forward to getting their starting quarterback back on the field and healthy. Last season, Dak Prescott was limited to just eight games due to a hamstring injury that landed him on injured reserve, but he is expected to be healthy for the 2025 season. While the veteran's 2-5 playoff record casts doubt on his ability to push the Cowboys through the postseason, Prescott is 76-46 throughout his regular season career, which sets up Dallas for a rebound after a 7-10 season in 2024."

We can debate what the ceiling is for the Cowboys with Prescott under center or if the roster is talented enough to win multiple playoff games. But the fact is that the Cowboys have always been a good team whenever Prescott is healthy and under center. Prescott is eighth all-time in career passer rating at 98.1 and his 33-8 record in the NFC East means the Cowboys should have a good chance of winning the division once again.

As long as Prescott can stay healthy, the Cowboys are a realistic playoff team and if the offensive line can quickly gel, they could be a threat in the NFC. They have the firepower on offense to be a force combined with a quarterback who has had a lot of success in the conference. Cowboys fans should be thrilled that QB1 is healthy and ready to go heading into Year 10 of his NFL career.
