The 2024 season could not have gone worse for the Dallas Cowboys. If Jerry Jones ever had a reason to table his frugal ways and spend like a drunken sailor what better time than with the Eagles playing in the Super Bowl and the Commanders making the NFC title game?
Maybe Jones opts go the trade route to improve the roster. Just this week, superstar pass rusher Myles Garrett requested a trade out of Cleveland and the Rams informed star wide receiver Cooper Kupp that they will trade him this offseason.
Kupp is the more realistic of the two from a Cowboys perspective, but trading for Garrett would communicate to fans that Dallas is serious about winning again. With Garrett due for an extension that could reach upwards of $30 million per year, it is a pipe dream at best.
Paying Micah Parsons will cause enough headaches and the Joneses are nowhere near savvy enough to fit two top-dollar DE contracts on the payroll. All there's left to do is hope that Garrett, if traded, doesn't land with a Cowboys rival.
Those hopes might fall on deaf ears.
Myles Garrett's latest trade comments could spell disaster for the Cowboys
In a sit-down interview with Philadelphia radio host Zach Gelb on Radio Row, Garrett made some bone-chilling comments about potentially getting dealt to Dallas' foremost rival.
"It would be a hell of a destination," Garrett said.

It is truly disorienting to think about Garrett joining an Eagles defense that ranked first in yards allowed during the regular season and second in points.

The sickest part? Philadelphia actually has a need for an edge rusher. Sack leader Josh Sweat is a free agent, Brandon Graham has stated he will retire after the Super Bowl and offseason trade acquisition Bryce Huff had just 2.5 sacks in 12 games.
Garrett would be the perfect complement to 2023 first-round pick Nolan Smith, who broke out this year to the tune of 6.5 sacks and has leveled up in the playoffs. Did we mentioned that Jalen Carter is one of the most disruptive defensive tackles in the sport? It's absolute nightmare fuel.
What would be the next-worse Garrett destination? We're glad you asked (you didn't). That would be the Commanders.
Well, Garrett seems pretty open to joining them. The All-Pro told ESPN analyst Mina Kimes that he would "absolutely" love to play alongside an up-and-coming quarterback like Jayden Daniels.
What is stomach-churning from a Cowboys perspective is that Washington is better positioned than any team to trade for Garrett. Not only do they need a premier pass rusher but their Super Bowl window is wide open and they have the requisite cap space to make Garrett the highest-paid defensive player in football.
Forget hoping that Garrett doesn't land with a rival. Cowboys fans should be praying that Cleveland just holds onto their all-world defender. The odds of Garrett ending up with Philly or Washington is way too high for comfort.
