Mike McCarthy cracks poorly-timed joke about Cowboys' sun controversy
By Mike Luciano
The Dallas Cowboys have fallen so far that they are now blaming Mother Nature and a handful of architects for their latest embarrassing performance. Cooper Rush getting dismantled against the rival Philadelphia Eagles wasn't even the main headline. Instead, the focus shifted to AT&T Stadium letting too much sun in.
While the Cowboys have often tried to get the sun shining in opponents faces as a way to throw them off their game, noticeable brain farts like CeeDee Lamb not even seeing a throw from Rush headed right to him too the focus off the miserable, feckless product on the field and directed it to the sun shining down.
Despite being on the hottest of seats at the moment, head coach Mike McCarthy still found time to joke about the whole situation. His cheerful attitude may not play well for a team and fanbase that are collectively about to burst after a terrible 3-6 start to the season.
McCarthy found time to joke about a blinder being up to prevent the sun from getting his eyes during the press conference. Seeing McCarthy in the shade while players have to look like chicken with their heads cut off amid some blinding rays of light has to be some cruel irony for Cowboys fans.
Mike McCarthy makes poorly-timed joke after Cowboys' sun problems
CeeDee Lamb was one of the more vocal opponents of the Cowboys letting sun in, saying he is "1000%" in favor of curtains being put up during games. The sun is blocked off whenever AT&T has concerts and other events inside, so why can't the Cowboys get the same quality of life improvement?
While this issue is likely going to be debated for the next few weeks, the fact this is even a problem is a sign that things are getting fairly bleak. The Cowboys have generally been a winning franchise that makes the playoffs quite often, and this was never a point of discussion this way.
The Cowboys are not going to win anything for the rest of the year, as Prescott's season-ending injury and the 1-2 punch of both Rush and Trey Lance looking out of their depth under center will make it difficult to reel off any positive results. Until then, fans will need to entertain silly discussions about the merits of letting the sun in the stadium as a distraction.
2023 feels so far away after this mess.
