Dak Prescott's tenure with the Dallas Cowboys has been polarizing but at the end of the day, Cowboys fans can rest easy knowing they have a quarterback who is good enough to lead a playoff run. There are many teams in the NFL that would love to have what Dallas has with Prescott under center.

One of those teams includes the Cleveland Browns, who have been in quarterback purgatory for decades. In fact, this desire might be more than just theoretical, as Prescott may be on the Browns' radar for a blockbuster trade.

Cleveland sportscaster Bruce Drennan dropped a bomb on Wednesday, with his sources telling him that the Browns are in negotiations with the Cowboys for Prescott. Drennan tied the rumor back to Myles Garrett, speculating that this could be part of the reason why the Browns' edge rusher changed course and signed an extension.

NFL Rumors: Browns and Cowboys reportedly engaged in Dak Prescott trade negotiations

This is a massive rumor and if it comes to fruition, it would shake the entire foundation of the NFL. Not only would the Browns get their franchise quarterback but it would have huge implications on the 2025 NFL Draft.

Dallas wouldn't trade Prescott if there wasn't a tangible plan B. With the Browns holding the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, any Prescott trade would almost certainly have to include the pick to allow Dallas to take their next franchise quarterback.

One may speculate that Dallas' plans would theoretically involve Colorado's Shedeur Sanders. After all, there was a brief sliver of time where Deion Sanders looked like a legitimate head coach candidate in Dallas.

That speculation was likely to increase his leverage with Colorado to get a big pay day, but it shows that Jerry Jones has an affinity for the Sanders family. And if there is any team Deion would want Shedeur to play for, it's the Cowboys.

All this being said, a Prescott trade is more fiction than it is reality. According to Over The Cap, Dallas would incur an additional cap hit of $95.3 million if the team trades Prescott before June 1. His cap hit for the 2025 season would be $148 million.

Dallas would actually save $2 million in salary-cap space if they traded Prescott with a post-June 1 designation. However, Cleveland only sits with $18 million in cap space and still has an entire draft class to pay.

Teams can shuffle around contracts to make it more manageable for both sides but there is simply too much money on Prescott's deal for this to be in the realm of possibility. While nothing is impossible in the NFL, this is as close to impossible as a rumor is going to get.
