After months of anticipation, Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys undoubtedly left some meat on the bone when they selected Alabama guard Tyler Booker with the No. 12 pick in the NFL Draft.

A three-year starter at Alabama and arguably the best guard in the class, Booker figures to play right guard in Dallas following Zack Martin's retirement.

The former Crimson Tide star won over Micah Parsons, who was initially skeptical of the pick, describing his hunger to make the opposition hate playing football. That bulldog mentality fits perfectly with Brian Schottenheimer's desire to be a more physical offense.

Having said that, Jones and Schottenheimer still have a lot of work to do. The Cowboys will be involved early on day at pick No. 44. Unfortunately, Jones may have telegraphed the team's plans when he compared the wide receiver class to the group of running backs.

Jerry Jones may have revealed Cowboys want a RB at pick No. 44

Dallas could wait until pick No. 76 to take a running back and be totally fine. Heck, they could drag this thing out until day three if they wanted and take two RBs.

However, the offense is crying out for an impact player after Tetairoa McMillan was gobbled up by the Panthers. The Cowboys stunned everyone by passing on Matthew Golden, with whom they were heavily connected leading up to Thursday.

Unless they're able to draft Missouri receiver Luther Burden, running back might be their best option to inject some firepower into the offense.

Ashton Jeanty (No. 6 to the Raiders) and Omarion Hampton (No. 22 to the Chargers) were the only backs to come off the board on night one. That leaves Ohio State duo TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins as well as Iowa bruiser Kaleb Johnson as potential targets.

The Cowboys are reportedly enamored with Virginia Tech's Bhayshul Tuten, who is a blur in open space, but he projects more as a third- or fourth-round pick.

There figures to be a run on running backs somewhere in the third round. Jones and Co. might not feel comfortable waiting until pick No. 76 to take one. The board may not fall in their favor and they don't currently own a fourth-round pick. A lot of factors are at play.

That isn't to say it's running back or bust at No. 44. Maybe Jones threw up his own smokescreen and the team actually wants a defensive player in the second.

However, the Cowboys subtly revealed in their pre-draft presser that they wanted an offensive lineman in the first round and Booker was the pick. Jones revealing his infatuation with the RB class after Dallas took Booker might be a sign of things to come.
