Not everyone knows who Christian Parker is — yet. But the Dallas Cowboys are ostensibly betting on their first-year defensive coordinator becoming a prominent figure sooner rather than later.

Historically speaking, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has taken a hands-on approach to the NFL Draft. He’s usually very involved in the club’s evaluation process, for better or worse. However, recent intel indicates Parker will be a key factor in Dallas’ two 2026 first-round picks, which is a massive vote of confidence.

"The influence new defensive coordinator Christian Parker will have on what the Cowboys do is significant, I'm told," CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones wrote. "Jerry Jones believes Parker's hire is a coup for the team, and they are listening closely to what the first-time DC has to say about these prospects.

"Parker is just 34 years old and hardly a household name, but he will have a major say in what the most popular NFL team does next week at picks No. 12 and 20."

Jerry Jones is clearly a huge believer in Dallas Cowboys DC Christian Parker

Dallas appears to be doing its best to make Parker comfortable and put him in the best position to succeed as possible. Jerry clearly trusts his judgement, empowering the ex-Philadelphia Eagles staffer to bring in guys that fit what he wants to do.

It sounds like Parker is set to receive a massive talent influx of his choosing. The Cowboys have a chance to bring in not just one, but a pair of potential building blocks to grow with him. That’s exactly what Dallas fans want to hear after seeing their hapless stop unit give up the most points per game in 2025 (30.1).

Whether the Cowboys package their set of Day 1 selections to move up the board remains to be seen. Either way, they’re almost assuredly going to get Parker some help; that much is evident. For what it’s worth, though, Jonathan thinks Dallas will use both of its top-20 capital.

Of course, it’s worth mentioning that giving Parker a loud voice in the war room can be a double-edged sword for him and the Cowboys. He can lose Jerry’s faith as quickly as the tea leaves suggest we’ve seen him gain it with one whiff on a big swing. There’s a lot of pressure on Dallas to land instant-impact prospects with long-term upside.
