Does this feel different?

Over the course of Super Bowl week, the Dallas Cowboys have been front and center for a whole lot of juicy chatter. And, after all, isn't that what Super Bowl week is for?

It's a week where thousands of media members flood the same ground as so many players, coaches and NFL ball-knowers. Of course, there are going to be whispers and rumors started, galore.

The hottest topic among Cowboys fans, this week, has undoubtedly been wide receiver George Pickens and his upcoming free agency. So far, much of the sentiments from inside the building are leading fans to believe Pickens isn't going anywhere.

But, we've seen this movie before. We've learned not to believe anything until it is set in stone. And yet, here we are, talking about Jerry's latest comments on his wide receiver. Spoken directly to Cowboys beat reporter Tommy Yarrish:

"I'm looking forward to getting things worked out so George can be a Cowboy a long time."

On one hand, you could say this sounds like your typical GM speak. But, when you pair this response with the entirety of these past few weeks' press conferences, interviews and overall tone, it seems like more.

Jerry Jones all but confirmed George Pickens’ Dallas Cowboys fate

This feels like a little more than just a "hint" dropped by Jerry, here. But again, we've seen this type of story unfold before.

Last year, the sentiments toward Micah Parsons didn't feel completely the same. Jerry says a lot, as we know, and it all has to be taken with a grain of salt. But the feelings this week, at the Super Bowl, have been overwhelmingly positive.

I hate to go out on a limb, like this, but I tend to want to believe Jerry on this one. The difference Pickens made, in this offense, was astronomical in 2025. It might be the best Cowboys offense we've ever seen with Dak Prescott under center.

From Pickens' career year to his running mate, CeeDee Lamb, being firmly in his corner, this feels different.

Heck, Lamb even went so far as to admit he wouldn't mind if Pickens wound up making more money than he did. That's a pretty strong vote of confidence. That's a very, very straightforward message sent to the owner from one of the franchise players.

Jerry's tone towards Pickens feels all positive, lately. It would be genuinely surprising if Pickens didn't get a contract to come back to Dallas. Last year, with Parsons' case, it never felt so overwhelmingly positive.

I guess you could say that's a positive to come out of the Parsons trade. We now have another big name and situation to compare Pickens' to. Hopefully, the trend continues over the next couple of weeks.
