Jerry Jones can't be tempted by draft bust Cowboys once gave up on

In typical Jerry Jones fashion, Dallas Cowboys fans have had to sit idly by while a former draft bust revived his career in 2025.

Jones moved on from Nahshon Wright before the 2024 season, and the Chicago Bears got to reap the benefits of his career revival which saw him be named to the Pro Bowl.

The most interesting part of Wright's bounce-back season is that it came in a contract year. This means that he'll likely cash in in free agency and will have robust market of suitors. The only question is if Jones will look to change his mistakes by bringing the ex-Cowboy back to the Lone Star State.

Given what we know about the owner, his ego won't allow him to avoid this reunion. WhileUSA Today's Nate Davis ranked the top 100 free agents of this offseason, Wright came in at 21st on the list. And to add insult to injury, he pegged Dallas as a potential fit for the veteran cornerback.

Jerry Jones has no business bringing Nahshon Wright back to the Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys badly need to reinforce the defense, especially the secondary, under new coordinator Christian Parker, but they'd be barking up the wrong tree with Wright.

Yes, the 27-year-old led the league with eight takeaways in 2025, but it remains to be seen if this sort of production is actually sustainable. The ball production did a lot to distract from his volatile play on the outside.

Per Spotrac, Wright's market value is at three years and $50 million, which comes in at roughly $16.7 million in average annual value. This is a lot of money for a player who has one true good season under his belt, especially when the Cowboys are already in the red from a financial standpoint.

Parker could certainly do some good work with the 2021 third-round pick, given his background coaching defensive backs, but not at that price tag. At that point, they'd be better suited just drafting someone like Mansoor Delane or Jermod McCoy, rather than breaking the bank.

If the Cowboys want to sign a veteran cornerback, they would be better suited signing a cheaper option like Greg Newsome or Cam Taylor-Britt, who have been just as productive.

If Jerry Jones really wants a reunion with a cornerback he drafted, Chidobe Awuzie makes more sense, as the 30-year-old was solid for Baltimore in 2025.
