The NFL playoffs start this week, but you wouldn't know it with the firestorm that Black Monday has facilitated.
The firings continued into Tuesday. While the Dallas Cowboys nearly won the day when news broke that they fired defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, they were one-upped by the Baltimore Ravens, who shockingly parted ways with longtime head coach John Harbaugh.
As football fans were processing news, ESPN's Adam Schefter dropped another bombshell, revealing that former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett (!!!) will interview for the Tennessee Titans head coaching vacancy.
Former Cowboys HC Jason Garrett to interview for Titans head coaching job
Even with the Ravens sending Harbaugh packing, Garrett landing a head coaching interview in the year 2026 is arguably the most stunning news to come out of this coaching carousel.
Garrett's last year with the Cowboys was in 2019. However, he landed on his feet as the Giants' offensive coordinator the following season. New York's offense finished 31st in points in both of Garrett's seasons, and he was dismissed midway through the 2021 campaign.
In other words, Garrett has been out of coaching for four years, and he hasn't served in a head coach capacity in six. It's more than fair to ask if the game has passed him by. That question was raised during his stint as the Giants' OC, and the game has evolved even more since then.

Garrett, who accumulated an 85-67 record in 10 years as the Cowboys' head coach, has become a staple of NBC's Sunday Night Football coverage, while serving as the network's No. 2 color analyst behind Cris Collinsworth. He has seemed comfortable in that role, but that he accepted the Titans' interview request suggests that he's seriously considering returning to coaching.
The 59-year-old was a fine head coach with Dallas, but he only had three playoff appearances to show for it, and even his best teams never fully realized their potential.
While 2025 No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward looks the part of a franchise quarterback, the Titans are arguably the least attractive of the head coach vacancies. It's not like Garrett would be set up for success, but we'll cross that bridge if and when the time comes.
