Hated rival could challenge Cowboys to land five-time Pro Bowler

Jerry Jones has to least try and avoid a cheat code from happening.

The San Francisco 49ers have a perfect opportunity to make a brotherly reunion happen, but the Dallas Cowboys could get in and stop it if necessary. With all the help the Cowboys need, yes, it is definitely necessary.

Five-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Joey Bosa is set to become an unrestricted free agent after a solid season with the Buffalo Bills. It wouldn't be a terrible outcome for Dallas if Buffalo brings him back. But with Bosa turning 31 in July, this offseason may represent his best chance to team up with his brother, Nick Bosa, with the San Francisco 49ers.

That's according to Zachary Pereles with CBS Sports, who listed the 49ers as Bosa's top landing spot while naming the Cowboys as another potential suitor. With Dallas desperate for pass-rush help, Jerry Jones could replicate Buffalo's approach and pursue Bosa on a one-year, low-risk deal.

Cowboys can cause chaos for 49ers and improve their pass rush by signing Joey Bosa

It would make plenty of sense for the Cowboys to take a swing at Bosa, as it would allow them to build a veteran EDGE tandem alongside Jadeveon Clowney, who has already gone on record about wanting to remain in Dallas. Bosa, meanwhile, could come at a far more palatable price point than some of the biggest fish on the trade market, like Maxx Crosby.

Durability has been a big concern with Bosa, but he was able to play in 15 games for Buffalo and did so at a high level. Pro Football Focus gave him an 88.7 pass-rush grade, which ranked 7th out of 115 among edge defenders. He also finished with 54 pressures, his most since 2021, five sacks, and five forced fumbles, which were the most in the NFL in 2025.

After being depleted on defense, the 49ers are in for a bounce-back season on that side of the ball. Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, and 2025 first-round pick Mykel Williams all suffered season-ending injuries in 2025. Add Joey to the mix, and it could be a scary 49ers defense.

Bosa may not be a huge needle-mover, but it's important to remember how dreadful Dallas' pass rush was when Clowney wasn't on the field. The need won't be as pressing if they trade for Maxx Crosby, but it goes without saying that they need to overhaul the DE room.

Coming off a resurgent year, Bosa will have multiple suitors on the open market, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, whose pass rush was as poor as the Cowboys' this season. It wouldn't be ideal to see another NFC team land the 10-year vet, but at least it wouldn't be the Niners.

Bosa may have his mind set on reuniting with his brother in Santa Clara, but Jerry Jones should at least try to get him to Dallas.
