The Dallas Cowboys made the obvious decision to fire defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. They certainly don't deserve praise for coming to that conclusion, but it's celebratory news nonetheless, and the timing puts them in a great position to land a strong replacement.
In the aftermath of the news, it's become clear that Eberflus lost the locker room. Veteran pass rusher Dante Fowler never mentioned Eberflus' name, but he had a lengthy quote about Eberflus not "evolving around his players" and not taking his players' opinions on certain things.
Well, you can add George Pickens to the list of players who seemingly approved of the decision. Pickens was caught liking the Cowboys’ Instagram post announcing Eberflus’ firing.

George Pickens definitely wasn't sad that the Cowboys fired Matt Eberflus
That settles it, give Pickens a lifetime contract right now. Pickens has already gone on the record that he wants to re-sign with the Cowboys. While money will ultimately do the most talking in that regard, sending Eberflus packing likely only strengthens his feelings about the franchise.
Regardless, an offensive player liking a post from the team’s official account confirming a coach was fired kind of says it all.
Speaking of liking posts on social media, nearly the entire Cowboys defense liked Quinnen Williams' Instagram post, which conveniently was posted after the Eberflus news broke. Williams' caption said, "great things are coming, so happy to be a Cowboy."

The list of players who liked Williams’ post includes CeeDee Lamb (!), DeMarvion Overshown, Osa Odghizuwa, Donovan Ezeiruaku, Cooper Beebe, Juanyeh Thomas, and Logan Wilson. While the timing of the post may have been unfortunate on Williams’ part, at the very least, Cowboys players appear to be standing in solidarity with the star DT and the belief that better days are ahead.
In light of what Fowler said about Eberflus failing to adapt or put his players in a position to succeed, you have to think he wasn’t the only player who felt that way. Pickens certainly signed off on the decision. It's not reckless to speculate that most of the locker room felt that Eberflus had to go.
It can’t be a coincidence that the Cowboys dropped the hammer in the midst of player exit meetings. While the Joneses and Brian Schottenheimer were already considering firing Eberflus, it’s reasonable to assume players used those meetings to voice their disappointment with the defense.
While X’s and O’s certainly help a coach command respect from players, it’s imperative that Dallas hires someone who can connect with players on a personal level. Eberflus failed spectacularly in both departments. It's no surprise the locker room was ready for a change.
