As the Dallas Cowboys wrap up minicamp and get set for a bit of a break before training camp begins in July, the fan base had better buckle up for a vacationary period. There won't be a whole lot of big news to talk about between now and camp, but that doesn't mean that roster moves don't happen.
Teams will continue to fine-tune their rosters ahead of camp, which means we could see some familiar names get their next opportunities, or new faces could arrive at The Star as roster hopefuls.
Speaking of familiar names, specifically to Cowboys fans, wide receiver Jalen Moreno-Cropper was just given his next NFL opportunity after flaming out with Dallas.
Moreno-Cropper has been signed by the New Orleans Saints to potentially boost the competition behind the likes of Chris Olave, Jordyn Tyson, and Devaughn Vele. He becomes one of several UFL players to be signed after their season recently wrapped up.
Jalen Moreno-Cropper has gone from a forgetful Dallas Cowboys lottery ticket to having a glimmer of NFL hope
Back in the 2023 NFL Draft, Moreno-Cropper was coming out of Fresno State as a potential Day 3 selection. But after not hearing his name called in any of the seven rounds, he was picked up by the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent.
The former Bulldog made it through the summer months and training camp with Dallas before he was cut and re-signed to the practice squad. At one point, he had fans buzzing with some strong performances in minicamp, but he just hadn't put it all together.
You can essentially copy and paste that story into the following year, as Moreno-Cropper came right back to camp, was cut, and became a practice squad member once more. Except, during the 2024 season, he wound up making his regular season debut in a game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
He played sparingly, only getting on the field for 12 offensive snaps and didn't receive a target, but at the very least, he could say he made it.
The following season, it was yet again the same thing, as Moreno-Cropper was let go as part of the team's final roster cutdown. But, he'd be back on the practice squad shortly after. In 2025, he saw the field a little bit more than in 2024, as he played 30 total snaps between offense and special teams.
It isn't much, but if we're looking at the positive side here, he's in line to stick around in New Orleans and potentially become a special teams regular, if all goes according to plan. At the very least, the path is there for him to potentially last with the Saints.
Beyond Olave, Tyson and Vele, the Saints don't have a whole lot at the wide receiver position. They've got former Patriots second-round pick Ja'Lynn Polk coming back from a serious injury and also invested two Day 3 picks into Bryce Lance and Barion Brown. But Day 3 picks are no guarantee.
There are a few other bottom-of-roster type names in the wide receiver room, so it isn't as though Moreno-Cropper has an easy road by any means. But, there is certainly a path for him to make his way onto another practice squad if he doesn't become a special teams ace.
