It feels like Jerry Jones is actively trolling Cowboys fans with latest signing

We're not sure what Jerry is cooking with, but it's definitely not gas.

The NFL trade deadline is less than three weeks away and the Dallas Cowboys could use reinforcements at a variety of positions. While most activity around the league will occur closer to the deadline, two notable trades have already happened.

Both involved wide receivers, which is an area Dallas needs to improve. Davante Adams was dealt to the Jets for a conditional third-round pick, while old friend Amari Cooper was traded to the Bills for a third-round pick and a 2026 seventh-round pick.

The Cowboys were never going to absorb Adams' contract, but Cooper was extremely affordable. However, reports claim that neither Cooper nor Dallas wanted a reunion.

There is still plenty of time for Dallas to improve the roster. A trade for a defensive end might be necessary being that DeMarcus Lawrence and Marshawn Kneeland will miss at least two and three more games, respectively, on injured reserve.

The good news? The Cowboys have actually made a move at DE. The bad news? It doesn't move the needle whatsoever.

Cowboys reportedly sign former XFL standout Jalen Dalton

The Cowboys announced they signed DE Jalen Dalton to their practice squad. To make room, they released defensive tackle Phil Hoskins.

An undrafted free agent in 2019, Dalton last played in the NFL in 2022 with the Atlanta Falcons. He appeared in seven games that season, racking up 12 tackles, three pressures, eight defensive stops and a 58.3 PFF player grade, per Pro Football Focus.

Dalton had short stints with the Bears, Saints and Panthers but he never got elevated from the practice squad. Season-ending injuries in 2020 and 2021 stunted Dalton's career. He most recently played for the San Antonio Brahmas of the XFL under former Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips.

While nobody could have expected Dallas to lose its top four pass rushers five games into the season, no general manager in the NFL (it's sickening that Jerry Jones still has that title) leaves more meat on the bone than Jones.

That isn't to say the unemployment line is filled with capable players, but it would be shocking if Dalton is elevated from the practice squad by the time Parsons, Lawrence and Kneeland return to the lineup.

Chauncey Golston has been the team's best DE amid the injury crisis. He was the best player on that side of the ball for Dallas against the Lions. Tyrus Wheat, Carl Lawson and K.J. Henry have all been subpar.

Defensive end is currently the weakest position on the roster. While nobody is banging the table for an Haason Reddick trade, it feels like Jones is actively trolling Cowboys fans by signing a player who's yet to record a sack as NFL player.
