It's been a while since fans were as bullish on a Dallas Cowboys draft class as they are about the 2025 group. The hope is that the class has a seismic impact to compensate for some recent draft misfires by the front office.

There are various Cowboys draft pick who failed to see out the duration of their rookie contracts. Between Justin Rogers, Viliami Fehoko and Eric Scott, Dallas has been aggressive moving on from former investments in the last 12 months.

However, there is one who may actually catch on with his new team: 2021 third-round pick Nahshon Wright, who is now with the Bears after a one-year stint in Minnesota.

Wright practiced with Chicago's first-team defense in minicamp when star cornerback Jaylon Johnson was excused from practice for a few days. Say what you will about minicamp, but it speaks volumes that Wright was trusted in that role so early into his tenure.

Former Cowboys CB Nahshon Wright off to a promising start with the Bears

The Cowboys' cornerback room is leaking oil right now and yet it would be stunning if Wright sniffed reps with the starting defense.

Getting back to Chicago, the starting cornerback job opposite Johnson is up for grabs this offseason and it seems Wright is getting a shot to prove he's worthy. Former second-round pick Tyrique Stevenson is undoubtedly the favorite to win the job, but he has to win back the trust of coaches and teammates after a distraction-littered 2024 season.

Regardless, there is seemingly ample room on Chicago's depth chart for Wright to win a spot on the 53-man roster.

The Cowboys traded Wright to the Vikings last August after it became clear he wasn't a fit in Mike Zimmer's scheme. He spent the entire season on Minnesota's practice squad and appeared in one game. He was released in April and was swiftly scooped up by Chicago, where he reunites with former Dallas defensive backs coach and assistant head coach Al Harris.

Harris' familiarity with Wright could give him a leg up in the CB battle. He is among the most experienced backups in the Bears' secondary and he has the length and size that Harris and new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen like in cornerbacks.

The Cowboys will play in Chicago in Week 3 this season. While all eyes will be on Matt Eberflus returning to his old stomping grounds, it would be quite the turn of events if Wright found himself lining up against George Pickens or Jalen Tolbert.
