This offseason, the Dallas Cowboys said goodbye to a few key veterans who they have leaned on in recent years. One of those veterans is cornerback Jourdan Lewis. After being drafted by the Cowboys in the third round of the 2017 Draft, and starting 64 of the 115 games he played in over eight seasons, Lewis left Dallas this off-season to join the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Jaguars signed the veteran defender to a three-year deal worth $30 million, and they’re counting on him to help the team return to contender status. It’s obviously still early, but so far, Jacksonville is pleased with the early returns from Lewis.
He’s currently penciled in as one of the starting cornerbacks on defense, but the Jaguars say his contribution is about much more than the individual performance he brings to the field. On Friday, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen detailed the difference-making leadership Lewis has showcased.
"He knows how to be a pro." - Coach Coen on Jourdan Lewis.

Jaguars are excited about former Cowboys corner Jourdan Lewis’ leadership
Coen said Lewis knows how to be a pro, emphasizing his ability to prepare and practice the right way, but also bringing his teammates along with him. He challenges the receivers to step their game up, and demand a standard from fellow defenders. Through it all, he’s made plays as well.
This sentiment was echoed by rookie sensation Travis Hunter, who said Lewis is like an uncle who leads him in the right direction. Entering his ninth year in the league, Lewis is embracing Unc status, saying that he just wants to prepare his teammates for the season ahead. Coming from Dallas, he’s seen all the league has to offer, so he’s just trying to share the lessons he’s learned with his new teammates.
Once the regular season starts, Lewis’ leadership and on-field ability will be put to a real test as Jacksonville tries to turn things around.
