Dez Bryant pleads with Cowboys to take big swing on former All-Pro

The Dallas Cowboys had an excellent draft. They plugged various roster holes and they did it by getting great value with most of their selections. First-round pick Tyler Booker was a slight reach, but it is hard to complain about replacing an all-great great like Zack Martin in round one.

Despite a strong draft, Dallas' roster still has room for improvement. They obviously did not draft a wide receiver, but they are reportedly moving quick to find a solution with old friend Amari Cooper being front and center of that search.

The Cowboys bolstered their running back room with Day 3 picks Jaydon Blue (fifth round) and Phil Mafah (seventh round), but the backfield could still use a more proven veteran. Franchise great Dez Bryant, ever outspoken about Dallas' frugal nature, wants his former team to make a splash for Nick Chubb.

Dez Bryant wants the Cowboys to sign RB Nick Chubb (and he's right)

Chubb is a story unto himself following the NFL Draft. The Browns drafted running backs in the second and fourth rounds, including the highly-courted Quinshon Judkins, seemingly signaling the end of the Chubb Era.

While Chubb is coming off a major knee injury, it is surprising Cleveland's front office does not want to keep a culture-setter like Chubb around. The team is in a mini rebuild as it strives to field a competitive roster for when it finally gets out from under Deshaun Watson's contract.

That should not concern the Cowboys, however.

Chubb is now two years removed from the injury. If you haven't been on social media recently, the four-time Pro Bowler can be seen going through rigorous workouts (see the embedded post above). It is hard to question Chubb's health after watching those clips.

Chubb is one of the best and most underrated RBs of his generation. From 2018 to 2022 (he suffered the knee injury two games into the 2023 season), the former second-round pick averaged a 1,268 rushing yards and 9.6 touchdowns per season on an elite 5.3 yards per carry.

While Chubb is not the one-man offense he was in his prime, he is still a really good player. His numbers last season might dissuade some fans, but it is important to remember how anemic the Browns' quarterback play and offensive line was.

In Dallas, Chubb would have the luxury of a top-10 quarterback and a young, but emerging offensive line that just added the draft's best run-blocker in Tyler Booker.

Dez's Cowboys advice isn't always on par, but he is spot on here.
