Cowboys would be crazy to consider this Ryan Flournoy trade idea

The Dallas Cowboys have made their fair share of trades across the last couple of months, but this time we are talking about a trade they haven't made yet--and should not make. Ryan Flournoy was one of the biggest breakout players for Dallas in 2025, and trading him would be a huge mistake.

While naming one trade target for every NFL team before the offseason ends, FanSided's Jake Beckman suggested the New York Jets should consider acquiring Flournoy from the Cowboys even though it makes zero sense for Jerry Jones to trade away one of their starting wide receivers.

"If they did have to make a trade, they should try to get a wide receiver who’s got some blocking chops, like Ryan Flournoy, the six-foot-one-inch, 200-pounder in Dallas," Beckman wrote. "He’s not going to break the bank or anything like that, but he’ll add something the Jets could use."

The Dallas Cowboys should not trade Ryan Flournoy to the Jets

Beckman prefaced this by saying the Jets should not be making any trades since they are virtually hopeless in 2026 and should be looking to 2027. However, it doesn't take away from the lunacy that would be dealing Flournoy given the state of a receiver room that looks murky behind CeeDee Lamb.

George Pickens' future is still up in the air, Jalen Tolbert is in Miami, and this Cowboys' WR room lacks depth. Right now, the 26-year-old is projected to be the WR3 behind Lamb and Pickens, and if they dealt him, one of KaVontae Turpin, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, or Jonathan Mingo would take his role.

None of those options inspire confidence. Turpin is just a return man, MVS is the human version of a Butterfinger bar, and I can count on my hands how many receptions Mingo has as a Cowboy. Meanwhile, Flournoy broke out in 2025, hauling in 35 passes for 407 yards and four touchdowns.

The Jets can try to call, but there's no guarantee Jerry Jones will pick up the phone. And unless they come through with a mind-blowing offer, I doubt that this trade offer would amount to anything. Besides, New York drafted Omar Cooper with the 30th pick in the 2026 Draft, signed Tim Patrick and still have Adonai Mitchell and Garrett Wilson on the roster, so they do not need him.

At this moment in time, the Cowboys can't afford to trade the 2024 sixth-round pick, as he's expected to build on what he accomplished last season. .
