By going from Matt Eberflus to Christian Parker, the Dallas Cowboys have upgraded considerably at defensive coordinator. That's like going from The Last Jedi to The Empire Strikes Back. And we're already seeing the impacts of the Cowboys having a competent mind calling their plays on defense.

Parker has a background coaching defensive backs, and for a Dallas defense that owned the NFL's worst pass defense in 2025, that matters. He helped develop players like Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and Patrick Surtain II, so his track record should help the Cowboys' own young DB room.

Caleb Downs was believed to be the player with the most to gain from the Parker hire, but he's not the only one in line to benefit. While speaking to Cowboys beat reporter and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Nick Harris, fourth-round cornerback Devin Moore was asked about adjusting to the NFL, and had nothing but good things to say about his new DC.

“It’s been amazing,” Moore said. “He’s taught me so many things that I needed to learn, he’s helped me elevate my game. Just being around him, he’s a great dude ..."

Devin Moore is the latest Dallas Cowboys' rookie to join the Christian Parker fan club

Moore is one of the more interesting prospects the Cowboys drafted. At 6-foot-3 and 198 pounds, he has all the makings of a long-term boundary cornerback for the Cowboys... if he can stay healthy, that is. And with his history, that is a legitimate question mark.

The 22-year-old appeared in 11 of 12 games for Florida in 2025, but his senior season was his first fully healthy year. Prior to 2025, he had never appeared in more than seven games in a season, but part of why they felt comfortable drafting an injury-prone CB is because of confidence in Parker to get the most out of him.

And clearly, Moore values the lessons his new play-caller has bestowed upon him. Calling him a "great dude" who has helped him elevate his game is a ringing endorsement for the youngest defensive coordinator in franchise history, who just so happens to have no experience calling defensive plays.

They're both learning on the job, but the bar is underground after Eberflus. It shouldn't be hard for Parker to improve a defense that has dedicated the entire offseason to adding reinforcements in the secondary, most notably with guys they believe he can get the most out of, including Moore.

Between Moore's size, speed, and ability as a tackler, there's a lot to be excited about in regards to his upside in the NFL. And his development will evidently be in very good hands with Christian Parker.
