Medicals have complicated the Dallas Cowboys' approach throughout the pre-draft process, and it looks like that trend is only bound to continue as we inch closer to draft day. It happened with Georgia LB CJ Allen, and it could be happening with Clemson cornerback Aveion Terrell after an injury update.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Terrell aggravated his hamstring injury on his first run of his private Pro Day today after he was unable to partake in Clemson's official Pro Day in order to nurse said hamstring injury, yet he couldn't even get through one singular drill before disaster struck.
Terrell has been a popular player mocked to Dallas with their 20th overall pick, but with Jerry Jones seemingly wanting to avoid players with concerning medicals, this will evidently hold some bearing on the Cowboys' draft strategy, even if isn't the deal-breaker that some people may make it out to be.
The Dallas Cowboys' pursuit of Avieon Terrell just got a lot more complicated
The 21-year-old is the brother of Atlanta Falcons' cornerback A.J. Terrell, and has been regarded as one of the top corners in the 2026 class. He revealed that he met with the Cowboys at the combine, but has yet to take a 30-visit with the team, which could still come in the next couple of weeks.
The Cowboys are 100% going defense with both of these picks, but the only question is where. Linebacker and edge rusher are also major needs, so it's no guarantee that Dallas was going to draft someone like Terrell even if he was available for them with the 20th pick given the talent in this defense-heavy draft.
The two-time All-ACC cornerback is not the only CB the Cowboys can draft in the first round, but since Mansoor Delane is unlikely to fall, the other big option is Jermod McCoy, who also has alarming medicals. However, Terrell's hamstring issues are significantly less worrisome than McCoy's ACL tear.
The other option Dallas could look into at cornerback in the first round is San Diego State cornerback and reigning Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year Chris Johnson (not to confuse him with the former RB), who has been one of the biggest risers up the draft board amid this pre-draft process.
Johnson had a strong showing at the combine and had a strong season of tape, while Terrell did more at a bigger school. Terrell doesn't get beat deep and is physical at the catch point like his brother, so even through some injury concerns, this issue shouldn't take him out of Dallas' draft plans entirely.
