It was only a matter of time until the Dallas Cowboys didn't make a sexy selection in the NFL Draft. With three fourth-round picks, they had the flexibility to pick an offensive lineman, and they did exactly that by taking Penn State tackle Drew Shelton.

It wouldn't be a draft weekend if Dallas didn't take an offensive lineman on Day 3. There's a lot to like about Shelton's game, including that he played both tackle positions for the Nittany Lions. He played on the right side in 2024 before protecting Drew Allar's blindside last season.

You know what that means? Tyler Guyton should be looking over his shoulder.

At left tackle, Shelton allowed only one sack and 18 pressures on 356 pass-blocking snaps, per Pro Football Focus.

Shelton's got swing tackle versatility, though you'd love to see the Cowboys light a fire under Guyton in training camp by creating a competition between Guyton and Shelton for the starting left tackle job.

To say Guyton is under pressure this season would be a massive understatement. 2025 was a major setback for the former first-round pick, as he missed most of training camp with a knee injury and went on to miss seven games during the regular season.

And the 10 games Guyton played in were hardly encouraging, as he ranked 81st out of 89 tackles with a 50.0 pass-blocking grade, allowing 31 pressures and six quarterback hits while committing seven penalties, per PFF. Pre-snap penalties have been a major issue for Guyton since he was drafted.

Are we predicting that Shelton starts Week 1 at left tackle? Of course not, but with holes left on defense, it speaks volumes that the Cowboys used the first of their three fourth-round picks on an offensive tackle.
