You'd be hard-pressed to find a Dallas Cowboys fan who doesn't want the team to pursue Miami Dolphins star linebacker Jordyn Brooks.

Sure, DeMarvion Overshown generated plenty of buzz at OTAs, as the former third-round pick is playing a lot of MIKE linebacker in addition to the WILL. Trade acquisition Dee Winters has also impressed, but Brooks is one of the best pound-for-pound inside linebackers in the sport.

If the Dolphins give any indication that he's available, Jerry Jones shouldn't think twice. That remains to be seen, but the tide may (emphasis on may) be turning after Miami extended another core player before the 28-year-old.

Per reports, the Dolphins and All-Pro center Aaron Brewer agreed to a three-year, $52 million deal, making the former undrafted free agent one of the highest-paid players at his position.

This should have set off a lightbulb in Jones' brain.

The Dolphins have extended yet another core player over Jordyn Brooks

Offensive linemen typically have longer primes -- and careers -- than linebackers. But both Brewer and Brooks are approaching their age-29 seasons. It'd be one thing if Brewer were nearing the last year of his rookie contract. He and Brooks are in identical situations.

On top of being one of the best players at their respective positions, they both entered the league in 2020 and are approaching the end of their second contracts. And yet, Brewer got paid first.

Center is not a premier position, but it makes sense why Miami invested in its offensive line before linebacker. After all, Brewer is an ascending player, and the Dolphins don't have many sure things along their O-line.

Still, Brooks has to be wondering when it'll be his turn.

Just a few weeks ago, the Dolphins gave star running back De'Von Achane a massive extension: a four-year, $64 million deal, making him the third-highest-paid RB at $16 million per year. One of the most explosive playmakers alive and the centerpiece of the offense, you don't have to think hard to understand why Achane got paid.

Again, though, you can argue that Brooks is the most indispensable player of Miami's defense.

On top of producing at a level few linebackers can match, he's also the unit's vocal leader. He's under contract through 2026, but for a modest $10.8 million, a number that doesn't necessarily reflect his value -- certainly not after an All-Pro 2025 campaign. He deserves a new deal as much as Brewer and Achane.

Perhaps the Dolphins will now devote all of their attention to paying Brooks. Or maybe this is all setting the stage for a summer trade sweepstakes. He'll have a robust market if that comes to pass, and the Cowboys would be smart to jump to the front of the line.

Brewer's extension is an undeniable sign to give Miami a ring.
