Cowboys fans face ugly truth with Myles Garrett heading to the Rams

Jerry Jones will never completely commit to making the Cowboys a legit contender

Well, Stan Kroenke and the LA Rams have done it again. They have acquired the premier pass rusher in the league, Myles Garrett, in a swap with the Cleveland Browns, sending young edge Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick to Cleveland.

While Rams fans should be jumping for joy over Kroenke's commitment to the team by pushing all of his chips to the middle of the table while he has a Super Bowl contender, Cowboys fans get yet another slap in the face.

It's just another reminder that Jerry Jones will never make the big deal to make the Cowboys legitimate contenders for the Lombardi Trophy.

Jerry Jones will never make a Super Bowl move for the Dallas Cowboys

To their credit, the Cowboys pursued Maxx Crosby earlier this offseason. They nearly agreed to a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, but Crosby's medical evaluation threw a wrench into everything.

Regardless of how we arrived here, Dallas' only additions at EDGE were Rashan Gary, who's a better run defender than a pass rusher, and Malachi Lawrence, a raw pass rusher out of UFC, with the 23rd overall pick.

Cowboys fans shouldn't be surprised at this point, as Jones has been clutching his purse strings in trepidation for over 30 years. The Cowboys' last Super Bowl appearance was in January of 1995, as if we need to be reminded.

Lawrence may immediately take instruction from new defensive coordinator Christian Parker and defensive line coach Marcus Dixon to become a factor right away. It would be wonderful to have a dominant edge rusher to help out a completely revamped secondary, headed up by top pick Caleb Downs.

But it is highly unlikely that Lawrence will be a true game-changer like Garrett, a shoo-in first ballot Hall of Fame player, or a dominant threat like Crosby or Trey Hendrickson.

Jerry loves to dangle that carrot just in front of Cowboys fans' noses with what looks like a talented enough team to compete for the playoffs, but he never gives us the carrot to satiate the fanbase's extreme hunger to be relevant on the big stage again.

The Cowboys are a Myles Garrett away from being Super Bowl favorites. They have an MVP-caliber quarterback in Dak Prescott, the most formidable WR duo in the league in CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, and the necessary new pieces on defense. Why not take the plunge? What are you waiting for?

We've seen this movie before Mr. Jones, and watching other teams reach for the brass ring while the iron is hot is just another reminder that the Cowboys will never be that team while your at the head of the table.
