To kick off mandatory minicamp, Dak Prescott gave Dallas Cowboys fans everywhere a bit of a scare. Brian Schottenheimer revealed on Tuesday that the star quarterback would be limited with a minor knee issue, which incited a bit of panic for obvious reasons. It's not even July, and we're already playing the injury game.

However, just as quickly as he created angst, Schotty quelled concerns, making sure to clarify that Prescott's knee soreness is nothing the Cowboys are concerned about. Dallas is just managing the 32-year-old's fitness before summer break in a few days.

"Nothing we're concerned about but we're just going to be smart heading into these last couple days," he said, via Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports.

It later came out that the 32-year-old would take part in 7-on-7 work, so the knee issue wasn't even severe enough to hold him out of practice completely. It's not like his availability for Week 1, let alone training camp, is up in the air, so Cowboys fans have absolutely nothing to worry about with this one.

There is nothing for Dallas Cowboys fans to worry about with Dak Prescott's knee injury

Holding him out to manage his reps entering the summer break would be one thing, but he's still taking part in practice. Clearly, they still want to give him some reps before training camp, as you never want your franchise quarterback to enter the summer with no reps--even if he's getting healthy.

It's a patient approach. We know all about the four-time Pro Bowler's injury history. He missed the final 11 games of 2020 due to an ankle injury, missed five games in 2022 due to thumb surgery, and was sidelined for nine games in 2024 due to a hamstring injury. This is all in the last five years, too.

The bigger concern is that it feels like every other year the veteran signal-caller deals with an injury of some sort, and the pattern has been in even-numbered seasons. And with 2026 being another even season, the superstition around Prescott's recent missed games will be a talking point in some circles.

When he's healthy, though, the Mississippi State Bulldog is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, but that unfortunately isn't often enough.

For the cheap seats: Dak Prescott is fine. If Brian Schottenheimer isn't worried, Cowboys fans can rest easy knowing this concern was put to bed almost as quickly as it surfaced.
