CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens took a backhand from 3-time Super Bowl champ

It must be the offseason, and here we are about to dive into a take given on a recent episode of The Herd. If Dallas Cowboys wide receivers CeeDee Lamb or George Pickens happen to come across the topic at hand, I sure hope they publicly respond.

In this noted episode, Jason McIntyre steps in for Colin Cowherd and has a former NFL offensive lineman and 3-time Super Bowl champion on for discussion. McIntyre chopped it up with Mark Schlereth, who was once a Cowboys rival having played for Washington.

Let's just get straight to the meat, here, and add in a little context later. In talking about the Cowboys, Schlereth spoke these very words (and you can go watch for yourself, too, if you'd like):

"We all make it about receivers, which is the most overrated position in football. Wide receiver is just ridiculously overrated."

Ah, yes. Wide receiver is the most overrated position in football. No one is going to disagree with that!

CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens were just given more reason to go nuclear for the Cowboys in 2026

Just for the record, Dak Prescott and the Cowboys are 1-2-1 without CeeDee Lamb on the field. Let's get that out of the way.

For more context, Schlereth was talking about the Cowboys and how they can win the NFC East this year. He was trying to explain what would make Dallas most dangerous. In doing so, he began with this ill-timed shot at Lamb and Pickens.

Good place to start, huh?

From there, Schlereth then tried to give a bunch of credit to the Cowboys for the job Jerry Jones has done on both the offensive and defensive line. Of course, a former offensive lineman is talking up the trenches.

That part isn't exactly surprising, nor is it off-base.

The part that's both hilarious and infuriating, at the same time, is calling wide receiver the most overrated position in football.

If you want to make an argument like that, you had better be talking about Tom Brady and only Tom Brady, who once had guys like wide receiver David Patten and tight end Christian Fauria as a couple of his favorite targets.

This is no slight against Dak. This is talking strictly about one quarterback, in Brady, in that you might be able to get away with a take like this.

I would love to see Schlereth in a room with not just Lamb and Pickens (who, by the way, went for a career year last year, in case he doesn't remember) but also guys like Ja'Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, Puka Nacua, Amon-Ra St. Brown, among others.

Schlereth has always made it seem that the trenches are the most important part of the game in his eyes. That's his shtick. He has never, and probably will never, move off of it.

But, to call wide receiver the most overrated position in the sport is so unbelievably laughable. There isn't even any basis for the take. He just babbled the words and moved on.

Please, CeeDee and George... please respond. We're all here for it.
