The Dallas Cowboys had a pretty productive offseason, adding multiple veterans and rookies in areas of need. Coming off a seven-win season in 2025, Dallas is hoping these new additions help them return to contender status.

While the news guys will play a big part in doing that, the development of some returning players will also be a huge factor.

One returning player to watch is DeMarvion Overshown, who entered the league with a lot of excitement surrounding him after being drafted in the third round of the 2023 Draft, but he hasn’t been able to deliver on much of that excitement yet.

That’s mainly because Overshown has been a victim of some hellish injury luck. If things go his way in 2026, though, he could emerge as a big impact player for Dallas.

Overshown’s career immediately got off to a bad start with him tearing his ACL in the second preseason game of his rookie year. That injury wiped out his entire first season.

Making it back in time for the start of his second season in 2024, the linebacker appeared in 13 games and finally looked like the player Dallas had been excited about. He was, at the very least, on a Pro Bowl trajectory, registering 90 tackles, 5.0 sacks, 20 pressures, and 8 tackles for loss.

Unfortunately, it all came crashing down again after a Week 14 knee injury that resulted in three torn ligaments (ACL, MCL, and PCL).

That kept him out for the first 10 weeks of the 2025 season, but he eventually returned and appeared in six games. So, after three seasons in the NFL, he’s played in just 19 games, totaling 118 tackles, nine tackles for loss, five sacks, one forced fumble, four pass deflections, and an interception that he returned for a touchdown.

The exciting thing for Overshown entering 2026 is that he’s healthy. Not just healthy in the sense that he’s on track to be ready for Week 1, but healthy in that he isn’t spending his offseason rehabbing, trying to get healthy. That’s a big difference for players. Instead of rebuilding his body to be functional, Overshown is building to be the best linebacker he can be.

The Texas native recently spoke about that difference, saying that injuries have prevented everyone from seeing him at his best. Overshown believes that when he’s healthy, he’s one of the best linebackers in the league.

The Cowboys are hoping that’s the case.
