With the 2026 NFL regular season finally on the horizon, Dak Prescott is set to begin his 11th season as QB1 of the Dallas Cowboys.
And given the weapons around him, there's naturally a ton of pressure on Prescott to put up the type of numbers he did a season ago, which turned out to be one of the best overall campaigns of his career, as he completed 67.3 percent of his passes for 4,552 yards with 30 touchdown passes against just 10 interceptions in helping America's Team rank second in the league in total yards per game (391.9) and seventh in scoring (27.7).
He'll naturally need the Dallas defense to be far better to get another crack at improving his postseason record, but that's not our focus here today.
Instead, we're here to dive into a part of Prescott's game that doesn't get much attention, that being his ability to run the football. Now, during this offseason, we've looked at several types of history that Dak could make in 2026, such as setting the new franchise mark for touchdown passes and becoming the all-time leader in regular-season wins by a Dallas QB.
But one thing we haven't discussed yet is the fact that he's on the cusp of surpassing the great Roger Staubach for the most rushing yards by a Cowboys quarterback. And one might also be surprised to know that he's about to break into the top 15 on the franchise's all-time rushing yards list.

Nobody is ever going to mistake Prescott for the likes of Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen, but through the first 10 years of his career, he's posted a respectable 2,115 yards on the ground, while averaging a very respectable 4.5 yards per rushing attempt.
As for Staubach, who most consider the best running quarterback in Cowboys history, the two-time Super Bowl champ rushed for 2,264 yards, averaging 5.5 yards per carry.
As such, simple math tells us that Prescott needs exactly 150 yards to surpass Staubach as the all-time franchise leader in rushing yards by a quarterback, which shouldn't be an issue whatsoever if he stays healthy. And with just 66 yards, he'll surpass Ron Springs to move into 15th place on the Cowboys' overall all-time rushing yards list, which currently plays out as follows:

For those wondering, when it comes to rushing touchdowns, Prescott already owns that record for a Cowboys QB, as he's found the end zone on 31 occasions, with Staubach sitting in second at 20. On the overall list, Dak currently finds himself in a tie for seventh with Robert Newhouse.
It'll take a career year for him to reach sixth place, however, as he sits eight scores behind the 39 tallied by Calvin Hill. Prescott's personal best is six, a number he reached in each of his first three seasons.
