In 2023, Dak Prescott had one of the best overall seasons of his career with the Dallas Cowboys, completing a career-best 69.5% of his passes for 4,516 yards with a league-leading 36 touchdown passes against just nine interceptions, thus earning a career-high 105.9 passer rating while leading America's Team to a third consecutive 12-5 finish.
For his efforts, the 2016 fourth-round pick not only earned the third Pro Bowl selection of his career but was also named a Second-Team All-Pro and finished second in the NFL MVP voting behind only Lamar Jackson.
That's a pretty darn good year for any NFL quarterback.
Naturally, after such a successful campaign, there were high expectations for both Prescott and the Cowboys as a whole heading into the 2024 season. But as we all know, those expectations were not even close to being met.
Prescott, of course, missed more than half the season after suffering a hamstring injury during a Week 9 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, which ultimately required surgery.
But even in the eight games in which he appeared, Dak looked nothing like an MVP runner-up, completing 64.7% of his passes for 1,978 yards with 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions. As such, his passer rating was a career-worst 86.0.
As for the team as a whole, Dak's injury obviously hurt, but the Cowboys had far more issues beyond what was happening with No. 4 and ultimately finished in third place in the NFC East at 7-10, thus missing the postseason for the first time in four years.
Prescott is expected to be fully healthy for the 2025 season, which marks a new era in Dallas as Brian Schottenheimer has replaced Mike McCarthy on the sidelines.
But oddsmakers certainly aren't liking the Cowboys' chances to bounce back — at least that's the indication from the way-too-early Super Bowl 60 odds. Along those same lines, it also appears that they're not thinking Prescott will be any sort of serious threat in the 2025 NFL MVP race.
Dak Prescott ranks 14th in the early 2025 NFL MVP betting odds
Shortly after Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was named 2024 NFL MVP, DraftKings released the early odds for the 2025 NFL MVP Award.
And simply put, things look bleak for Dak Prescott.
It's not a surprise that he didn't crack the top five. But surely he made the top 10, right? No, that's not a thing either.
To find Dak on the list, one must first read through the names of 13 other starting quarterbacks, six of whom are in the NFC. And even then, it's not as if Prescott owns the 14th slot by himself, as he holds the same +3500 odds as Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers and Bo Nix of the Denver Broncos.
Here's a quick look at the way-too-early 2025 NFL MVP betting odds.
