Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs is getting a serious education in the concept of Murphy's Law in the 2025 season, as this campaign has been marred by some issues with the organization, injuries, and plain-old poor performance. As the Cowboys are fresh off getting blown out by the Denver Broncos, yet another problem has been put in Diggs' path.
Diggs was fined in the offseason for some violations of the team's workout program, has been very openly critical of the team in the aftermath of the Micah Parsons trade, and has put together some bench-worthy performances. Somehow, things have gotten even worse.
Diggs, who missed some time this year with a concussion, may need some surgery on his knee that could sideline him for a good chunk of time, per Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News. While rest seems to be the preferred method of recovery right now, it appears a more serious operation is firmly on the table.
Situations like this seem to snowball when the Cowboys are involved, and Diggs' recent regression and off-field dust-ups culminating in a surgery would be the cherry on top of what has been a nightmare season for someone who was an All-Pro.
Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs may need knee surgery amid terrible 2025
Diggs has an argument for the title of worst cornerback in the NFL this season, as opposing quarterbacks have a passer rating of 154.9 when they throw at Diggs. For reference, a perfect passer rating is 158.3. Not only is Diggs playing poorly, but Matt Eberflus' defense is making him look worse.
The Cowboys might be willing to put up with some big catches from Diggs if he is able to generate interceptions, but the young player who once led the league in interceptions hasn't picked off any passes this year. More concerningly, Diggs is rarely (if ever) in a position to even make a play on the ball.
With or without the injury, and even if Diggs was playing slightly better, a fresh start might be best for all parties involved. Diggs is clearly not himself right now, and Dallas is asking him to paper over so many secondary cracks that he is unable to fill right now.
Unless he picks off a few passes, which doesn't seem like it's happening anytime soon, Diggs will continue to play a big part in the orchestration of a gnarly Cowboys defense that will take the wind out of Dak Prescott's sails.
