Cowboys are so toxic they may have broken Brandon Aubrey
By Jerry Trotta
You can probably count on one hand the number of things that have gone right for the Dallas Cowboys this season. CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons have been awesome. Rico Dowdle and Jourdan Lewis have turned in sneaky-good years. And, of course, the ever-automatic Brandon Aubrey has kicked at an All-Pro level once again.
Aubrey is seemingly the only player on the roster who doesn't have a blemish on his 2024 resume. While the Cowboys are in the midst of an all-time bad season - probably their worst in a decade - surely they aren't capable of breaking their all-world kicker, right? Think again.
Aubrey's first field goal attempt against the Washington Commanders got blocked. The protection up front imploded so the kick had no chance.
Nothing Aubrey could've done about that, but he had a chance for redemption on the next drive and missed it wide right.
Cowboys are so rancid that they may have broken Brandon Aubrey
No, Aubrey isn't broken. But he was definitely spooked on the second attempt. The Commanders' special teams nearly broke through for another block. It's possible Aubrey was spooked from the initial kick getting blocked and rushed the second.

If there is one saving grace from Aubrey's awful afternoon, it might boil down to his woeful track record in Washington. With two misses on Sunday, Aubrey is now 1-for-5 on field goals in Landover over his first two seasons. His first miss of last year was in this very stadium.
Still, this is now two weeks in a row that Aubrey has looked human. He missed a kick against the Texans after his plant foot slipped.
The second-year kicker is still having a fantastic season, but this is a concerning trend when you consider he made his first 35 career kicks as a rookie, which broke the previous record for most made FGs without a miss to start a career.
Aubrey made his first 16 attempts from 50 or more yards, which is an NFL record. In Week 3 of this season, he set the Cowboys' franchise record with a 65-yarder. He is also the fastest kicker to make 20 field goals of at least 50 yards and he already has the record for most 50-yard FGs in team history.
These stats aren't going anywhere. Aubrey is still awesome, but Dallas' field goal operation is an abject disaster right now. Until that gets fixed, it stands to reason that Aubrey will look human.
