The Dallas Cowboys are expected to be active in free agency, but they could make a move on draft night that no one will see coming.
Dane Brugler from The Athletic released a post-Combine mock draft in which the Browns take Spencer Fano, the outstanding offensive lineman from Utah. Not a bad pick considering the Browns need several new linemen.
David Bailey, the Unanimous All-American pass rusher from Texas Tech, was still on the board in Brugler's mock after the Browns' pick.
That got Cowboys insider Bobby Belt of 105.3 The Fan thinking that Dallas should offer its two first-round picks -- No. 12 and No. 20 overall -- to Cleveland for No. 6 and No. 39.
"If you're telling me I can get David Bailey and then have pick 39 to get one of these safeties, maybe in a deeper class, or try and grab one of these corners that might've slid, sign me up, I'm making the trade if Cleveland wants to do that," Belt said.
The Dallas Cowboys should consider trading up in the NFL Draft for David Bailey
To further bolster Belt's proposal, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported that the Browns are open to exploring opportunities to trade down from No. 6 in hopes of stocking up on draft picks and young talent.
Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram was on The Fan with Belt during that discussion and said that the Cowboys could grab
"This safety class is so deep I think you can get a really damn good safety there at 39."
In Brugler's same mock draft, he has Tennessee cornerback Colton Hood and Indiana CB D'Angelo Ponds around the mid-to-late 30s. The Cowboys can also decide to go for another fellow Red Raider defender, as Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriguez has been rising after an electric combine.
The Browns can still go for a top 15 offensive lineman if they want. Fano potentially won't be there, but multiple big names should still be on the board. From there, they could take the best wide receiver available. Arizona State star Jordyn Tyson is an exciting possibility.
The Cowboys have multiple options on the table and plenty of leverage to get what they want. They can pursue the Maxx Crosby route if they choose, but passing on that opportunity wouldn't be the end of the world.
If they have the potential to go get Bailey, they shouldn't think twice.
